Some thoughts... try at your own risk... Run a jumper wire to the "run" circuit that goes dead when you turn the key to "crank", so the jumper keeps that circuit powered up... does it start now? (SHOULD be no harm in doing that... it's essentially what an "add-on" remote start unit does.) If it starts while jumpered. it COULD mean a bad ignition switch that won't keep the engine electricals powered up while cranking. I just finished repairing a 1985 Mazda with the opposite problem... It had ignition and fuel injection while cranking, and would "die" when the key was allowed to return to "RUN". A new ignition switch fixed that. If the above doesn't help, some other thoughts... One side of the injectors will be powered to battery voltage. The 'puter grounds the other injector terminal each time injection is required, and keeps it grounded for a fraction of a second. The LENGTH of time the 'puter keeps it grounded determines fuel rate by controlling injector "duty cycle". A broken wire or bad connection between the 'puter and the injectors will keep the 'puter from activating them. Also, suspect a bad ground. There are 'puter ground wires coming out of the engine harness that attach to the block, and various ground straps, etc., from the battery, to the engine, to the body. Try "powering up" that "run" circuit, and see if it starts, and post back!
