tractor deals - long

Just thought I would get an opinion here, as it has been bugging me all weekend. I had an "internet" tractor buddy (we met in person numerous times) call me saying he wanted to sell a tractor and wondered what he should sell it for. I asked him about the tractor and he said it was in great shape but needed rear rims. We agreed on a price, and I decided to buy it from him. We met at a designated city (I travelled 200 miles, he 400) and I noticed right away that the fenders had cancer, the radiator sheetmetal had been pounded out and there was a big puddle of hydraulic fluid on the trailer. I made a few comments about these things and he said he was not aware of the leak, and since I had not asked him about the fenders or sheet metal he had not commented on them......was I being a sucker for taking the tractor at the agreed price? I feel that I have been taken, but I hate confrontation and thought maybe he would adjust the price without me getting too upset. If I had gone to his place and looked at the tractor I would have walked away from the deal, but since he had hauled it that far I felt obligated to take it. Would you guys sacrifice a friendship over a tractor???
