I have a 1971 Ford 2000 3 cyl gas tractor that the previous owner had removed the battery cables and solenoid and never got around to replacing them. I bought a new solenoid and battery cables and ignition switch but had to jump start the tractor. It cranked and ran but when I killed it it would not start again, not even with a jump. The battery got very hot, and when I tried to jump it the jumper cables also got hot. Can someone help me? I have the positive cable from the battery going to the solenoid and the negative grounded to one of the starter mounting bolts. Thanks!
