You can try to pop it free with the plugs in but as soon as it moves any you then need to pull the plugs or you can bend or brake a rod because of hyd lock. Also if you don't want a mess you need to hang a rag etc on the side or it will shoot the tranny fluid all over. I've done it a few times and wasn't thinking and got a shower in tranny fuid which is ok but sure isn't all that nice either. Did that one time on an H I was playing with and had the starter hooked up so that there was no switch and I would just put the cable on the battery and it popped loose and shot tranny fluid all over me from head to foot. But at least I was driveing it an hour later so the shower wasn't all that bad for what the out come was.
