Yes Wally, you will need an external switch for the coil, that turns the motor on and off. The ford system with the fender mounted solenoid usually does this. Sounds like that is what went. As long as you give power to the wires that operate the run mode, you can use just a standard ag spring return starter push button. good luck! Dan T
