A fully charged battery should be setting at 14.2 volts for 6 cells, 7.1 volts for 3 cells. And the A terminal on the generator should be at those voltages or a little higher (to allow for voltage drop in the current sampling coils of the voltage regulator.). You need to check field voltage (which might be from F to ground or from A to F, there are two possible connections and no consistent standard between makers). If there's lots of field voltage (essentially battery voltage) and nothing to speak of on the A terminal then the brushes are worn too short, or there's an open in the field coils. If there's no voltage across the field coils, then the regulator is bad. I'd suspect the voltage regulator first, then the brushes in the generator. Take them to an automotive electric shop and they can fix and repair everything but the wiring you didn't take to them. Though the local shop could work on the tractor if you drove it in... So far, I've found their work to be superior and far less costly than buying a replacement tractor generator. Gerald J.
