I remember back in the early 80's I was farming the James River bottoms east of Springfield and a sinkhole developed in the spring of the year, it started out about 5 feet in diameter and about 15 deep, when we went to cut the sudan in mid summer it had growen to 30 feet in diameter and about 40 feet deep, it never got any bigger than that. I do remember it was real dry that year.
