ot/ hay planting questions

hi, i'm new to haymaking and i wanna plant about 4 acres to start with this fall. the field i plan to use is currently sweet corn that will be harvested this week. i have some quistions about what i need to do. do i need to plow it first or can i just go over it with the harrows until it looks good? when is the best time to plant? can i do it with a broadcast spreader or will i have to barrow a seeder? also what brand of seed is a good kind? thanks, joe
