You need to check for the fly free (hessian fly)date in your area. Wheat requires a shallow application of phosphorus because of it's shallow root system. If you use MAP or Dap this will give you an adequate nitrogen rate until spring when you should apply addition nitrogen based on your stand and yield goals.

In our area of central Illinois (Champaign) the fly free date is October 1
