Used em both, Have been using propane lately because of acetylene tank cost. My observations. Propane: You will use more oxy. special tips are required, and cost more. Not as hot and longer preheat times for cutting. Tips are a bit harder to clean. Cannot weld with Propane. Safer to use and transport, Can run over 15 psi on torch without becoming unstable. Tanks are cheap and last a long time per fill. Acetylene: Costs more overall than propane burns hotter and less preheat time. Can weld with acetylene. Uses less oxy than propane. Tanks are high in cost. Is not as safe to use and store as propane. can weld with acetylene. Both will cut fine with the right tip.
