You may want to consider any warranty issues when you are going to modify the system. You mentioned the quad is newer but not how new. That said if I were going to put another battery on I would set it up on a switch similar to the one in a motor home. You are working (or charging) a single battery at a time like the system is designed to do. If a battery goes down then simply switch over to the other one. You just have to go back and forth periodically to keep them both charged. When in doubt an external charge on both wouldn't hurt. HTH
