Teflon tape is just fine, so long as you wrap it around the male part, keeping it back 2 or 3 threads, so there is no chance of the teflon getting inside the system.

...is even better. Use it on clean, undamaged pipe threads, and properly tighten them, and you'll have NO leaks, EVER.

If you're too "tight" (just kidding) to spring for this size, I think they make it in small tubes, also, but I don't have the part number at hand.
