My dad told of planting a small field of Jerusalem Artichokes (a root crop- don't know much more about them)- turned several pigs out into them when mature, and the pigs rooted around and ate them- everything fine until the pigs all died, without any real symptoms, within a few days of each other. Posted them and found their guts full of sand and dirt. Hope the cows are a little daintier eaters. . .
