When using a Pertronix module with a coil that needs and EXTERNAL resistor, connect it up like this:

That gets full battery voltage to the module's electronics, yet protects the coil and module from excessive current with the ballast resistor.

Check this:

Test light to (+) terminal on coil and ground... should light with key on, remain lit while cranking.

Test light to (-) terminal on coil and ground... MAY be "ON" or "OFF" with key "ON"... should flash rapidly during cranking, if the module is working, and pulsing the coil as it's time for each cylinder to fire.
