Take a piece of plastic from an old battery a little bigger than the hole. Use a propane torch to warm up the plastic piece and then warm up the spot around the hole you want to repair. Then slap the two melted pieces together. This worked for me to fix a crack in the bottom of a battery.
I just had to drain the acid out.
