When I was in college I worked for IBP as a meat cutter. In the summer of 1986 they were working some serious overtime. I'd usually work normal shifts during the week but on the weekends I'd make some money. On Friday mornings I would get up to make the 4:15 start up, and work a double 10 hour shift and get off work at about 3:00 am Saturday morning. Usually I'd go out and drink a few beers with the my roomates then eat breakfast. I'd take a quick shower and go back in for the 5:15 startup on Saturday. I'd work work two 10 hour shifts and get off at 4:00 am Sunday morning. That summer I was averaging 24 to 32 hours of overtime a week. Now they say that "work Americans won't do".
