Generally, if the combined vehicle weight rating (and, of course, the actual weight) is LESS THAN 26,000#, and the (single) trailer is LESS THAN 10,000# (leaving 16,000# for the truck) no special licenses, tags, endorsements, etc. are required. However, if the trailer is tagged for 12k (that is, 24,000#), you are already WAY over limit. Best advice in this column is... Plan your route, Call the state DOT's for each state, Get the appropriate paperwork, Be careful! Nathaniel
