A guy i worked with at a Ford car dealer, back in 1948-51, repaired the rear differential on a '41 Ford. Those rear ends could be assembled wrong, especially if you had it upside down on the shop floor. The ring gear center section could be installed on the wrong side of the pinion gear!
All went well-he put it all back together, installed it in the car. Started the car, put it in reverse, turned around to look behind the car, let out the clutch and----BANG!!---ran into the work bench in front of the car!
Being he was the head mechanic at that shop, it took a long time to live that down!
