Start by checking to make sure that you have a strong spark. Pull the center wire out of the distributor, hold it near a good ground while you try a start. You should have a fat, bluish white spark; not blue, red, orange or yellow. It has to be bluish white and strong. If you don't, check the point setting and point cleanliness(no corrosion, ,or severe pitting). Also make sure that the primary circuit has near battery voltage to the coil. Next check the timing and advance. Check the run out on the distributor shaft. If you push sideways on the shaft with the points closed, you should see no motion at the points. The shaft should move less than 0.002". Pull your plugs and read them. Are they carbon fouled or oil fouled?
If all this checks out, the make sure you ave an adequate fuel supply. If there is a drain plug at the bottom of the carb, open it and catch the fuel in a container. You should see fuel run out the drain like a cow peein' on a flat rock for at least 45 seconds. It should be a continuous flow not intermitent. If it doesn't check the filter in the sediment bowl and any other filter in the supply line. If it's OK, you may need to readjust the float valve.
With the engine running, try adjusting the carb mixture. If younhave to enrich the mixture too much, sustect n air leak down starem of the carb etering section caused by leaking throttle shaft, laek in connect flange between the carb and the intake manifold or a leak in the intake manifold to head interface. Spray some carb cleaner around the areas with the engine running(Carefully it's flamable) and listen for the engine to speed up if there's a leak.
Do all these checks systematically and record the results. Get back if you have any questions.

Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
