Bill, I also have a 2005 F350 with a 6.0 diesel. Last winter it did like yours. I took it to the dealer for a factory recall. I has not smoked agian. You should have lots of warranty left on that engine. Take it to a dealer for a check-up. There is probably a sensor problem that will be a simple fix.
