I was looking at a John Deere 4440 today that is going to auction next week. It has 7945 hrs on it. It started up great in the cold weather and sounded very strong. It has the quad range transmission. I did not see any blow-by or anything that would lead me to believe that there is a problem with the engine. The clutch and transmission seems very strong and responsive. The tires are in good shape also. I did find a couple of problems. There is a panel missing from between the steering wheel and the cab. The engine cut off bracket is broke off inside the cab. It still works, but it needs fixed. The biggest problem I found was that the PTO lever will not stay engaged. Do you think this is a tractor worth getting for hay work and light tillage? If so, what do you think the max price should be on this tractor. Thank you for your input. TJH72
