1999 is considered a 8 year old truck. If this is on a dealer lot offer less than half of what he is asking and you may be suprised. If you want really dirt cheap find one of the last two years for the 6.5 chevy 3500. I think about 1998 is the last. All the bugs and cooling problems were worked out but the reputationed remained. Check out large dealers and tell them you want a wholesale older diesil. They know they can't give the old chevys away and you can find low milage ones for a few thousand. They will also point you to the trucks that will be auctioned off because of age. Nice thing is you can tell how they have been treated because they have not been cleaned up. Show up to buy and offer less than half of what you thought you should pay and they will be happy to get rid of a truck they were going to get little for at aution anyway. Some dealers play some don't so don't be afraid to hit a few large dealers. People trade in nice trucks everday. Big dealers need to get rid of older trucks everday. Everbodys happy especialy the smart buyer that you are now. You can get dealers to tell you exacly how much they have in a truck so if they make 100 bucks plus they don't have to auction it off they are happy to let it go. Start out at smaller lots to learn the ropes of horse trading cars and in no time you will be a wholesale buyer. Look professional not a tire kicker when you go in. It is really as easy as I am saying. Good luck!
