Those chains look way too small, what size are they? That method of tying down will work to keep the tractor from moving, but I don't think it will keep the tractor on the trailer during an accident. Next time you see a big rig hauling tractors, take a look at how the tractors are chained down, I think you will understand what I am talking about. And yes, you do need some weight on the truck, but with a gooseneck trailer, there is no way that you will not put some weight on the truck. I learned the hard way also, when hauling tractors, the rear axle of the tractor should be centered between the 2 axles of the trailer. This will result in the load being much more balanced, which will give a much smoother ride, and is much easier on the truck, trailer, and the driver. For what it's worth, I also have experience as an over the road trucker.
