Have flirted for a while, with the idea of building myself a mist blower. The ones I have seen all have squirrel cage fans. Went so far as to find a used squirrel cage fan from a small commercial size building heating system but after seeing the factory mist blowers have small rods running from center to outside of cage for reinforcement and hearing my BIL’s story about his home build attempt, flying apart when driven by a 10 hp gas engine, I have reservations about using it. I feel that adding reinforcement and balancing the cage could get tricky. Planed to power with PTO on rear of 8N. So, because of the complications apparent using the cage, I am considering using an engine blade type cooling fan powered with PTO. Am bothered a little by the fact that the mist blower manufactures do not do it that way. So why not? Is it safety and liability that has kept them from it? With shielding, that could be taken care of on mine. Suggestions comments and all help appreciated. This is for use in pasture and orchard.
