I would have to say that 95% of the IP's that fail are simply a sensor and not actually the IP. Or the PMD that fails, sadly though the mechanics at most dealerships or shops don't realize this and swap out IP's. Simple fix is to relocate the PMD out away from the IP and all the heat that is there. Now, the 6.5's aren't the greatest pullin engine but I love mine and at nearly $30k for a used Duramax I will keep my '96 with 174k on her for a while yet since it only cost me $5700.
