Very early in the Duramax/ Allison trans production they had an issue with the trans down shifting too far in tow/haul mode going downhill with a heavy load. McCroskey's in Chariton Ia had 3 trucks at the same time waiting for new engines. In each case the trans down shifted too far, over revved the engine, and tossed the rods on the same hill east of Lucas Ia on U.S. 34. To the best of my knowledge they fixed that problem long ago.
