That's not what is going on. GM is planning to use a pre-existing small diesel that's been sucessful in Europe, and start using here in light trucks - e.g. 1/2 ton trucks, Tahoes, etc. Just like they had in the past with the 6.2 and 6.5 diesels. The Isuzu Duramax is still being kept, improved, and used for the heavier stuff. Ford had tried to go the same route. They hired Navistar to create a new light V-6 diesel so Ford could start making light diesel vehicles like GM has since the 70s. So, Navistar started building a new plant to make the engines - and Ford cancelled. P*ssed a lot of Navistar people off.
