I have suggestion for you. That truck has an hour meter on it, find out what hours it has and then do a calculation on how far it ran each our based on the mileage. My truck runs around 35 miles for each hour it has run which represents a lot of road miles. If you come up with a figure of say 5 miles for each hour, that tells you it has a lot of stop and go miles or has idled a lot. I have had 3 5.3's and I average 15.5 mpg. On the road 18 mpg is not unusual. The old 5.7 did a better job towing or hauling a load because in my opinion, it had more low end torque. Another thing I do when looking at a used vehicle is walk around it and look inside the box. If it is dented or scratched up, the owner wasn't careful with it and probably didn't take care of the maintenance required.
