This very site sells the Pertronix units. The original units are NOT capable of "driving" a real "HOT" coil and have performance similar to "points" except they (hopefully) don't deteriorate like points with use. (Follow Pertronix's published information as to the lowest primary resistance coil that can be used. Failure to heed this advice will lead to the smoke being let out of the Pertronix unit.) For those applications where Pertronix "Ignitor II" units are available those units can "drive" a HOT low primary resistance coil. Or you can use the original units to trigger an MSD box driving a "HOT" coil if you want a REALLY HOT spark.
