The old head bolts can not reliably clamp down the head after being stretched, heated, cooled, vibrated and exposed to the chemistry of an internal combustion engine for 39 years. New bolts and washers will be cheap insurance. Good thing you used new vales. Grinding old valves sinks them and lowers compression which causes hard starting.
