Nearly lost my trailer.

I pull a 7000 lb Appalachian trailer with my GMC. I have been doing it for years. I took it to the shop for new rear brakes and when I picked it the guy cautioned me about my hitch.
It is a class 4 hitch that mounts to the frame with 3 -1/2 inch bolts on each frame rail. The receiver is an extension from that. Well the hitch was bent to the right slightly. Needing to haul an Oliver 55 I figured we could haul it that evening and get a new hitch the next day. We loaded the tractor and headed home. About 5 miles from home on a major 4 lane, I began hearing this grinding noise. After a bit I pulled off the road and as soon as I hit the berm all hell broke loose. The hitch bent and the trailer tongue and all was down on the road. The moral of this story is , Check Your hitch once in awhile, they make a lot of scrap these days.
