What does the voltage read across the two batteries with the tractor running? IIRC, it"s supposed to be about 29 Volts. The gauge should be powered by (-) 12-Volts (nominal), in relation to the chassis. As you alternate between grounding the wire to the sender to the chassis and not grounding it, the gauge should alternate between empty and full. You can"t just pull the sender out of the tank and expect the gauge to move as you swing the float. the sender has to also be grounded to function. There are gauges for (+) ground systems and (-) ground systems, and, according to a guy that was working with a 4010 a while back, the parts system is confused as to what is what with the gauges. You could go over to the KL Forum and ask for "Jim in AK", as he had some part numbers for the guage and sender that worked together on his 24-Volt system.
