6' or 7' cutter bar for JD # 5 mower?

I am in the planning stage for working on my JD #5 mower. My 7' cutter bar was bent once then straightened . It isn't in the best of shape so I will need a new one. I was told that a 6' cutter bar will cut better than a 7' one, is this true? I figure, if it plugs less, I will have the same production without the trouble of unpluging it so much. Thanks!!
