CDL is a federal law. jawl10 is the closest to the correct answer. More importantly, if you are going to cross state lines you need to get familiar with the FMCSA regulations. The key to what you are doing is your trailer is over 10,000# and you will be crossing state lines. You should also check with your state DMV and your insurance agent. With a CDL you also need a current medical card and be enrolled in a drug testing program. Unless of course you are gonna be one of them outlaw truckers, then you don't have to do nothing.
