Yes you can TIG weld it. It could have a fire but not like gasoline. It would be best to steam it out first or at least flush it a few times with the hottest water you can. Welding actually melts and fuses the metal together unlike soldering that just fills in the pores when heated. Semi tanks are welded all the time. It's not too big a deal. Talk to a shop that does them. You need to use Aluminum TIG rod to weld aluminum fuel tanks. Vibration and cracks by the clamps are common. I've welded a few but know people that have done lots including aluminum oil pans mostly for Cummins engines and aluminum semi wheels. It's not uncommon for the valve stem to get welded up and a new one drilled. Dave
