They are bands. I have only gotten one side off as of yet and the metal band itself has rusted entirely in two. This particular tractor had sat in a cow pasture for 20 plus years. The former owner did have enough foresight to put it up on blocks but it was still exposed to the elements. water must have sat in the housing and eat away the bottoms of the bands. I got is running in just a few days. But it will not stop at all. So I broke the rear end down in order to get to the brakes. They are about two inches wide and go around about a 6 or 8 inch drum; I'd have to measure in order to get the official deminsions. I suspect the other side is just as bad.
