Depends on your tractor, if you have shiftable pto speeds, then you can use an adaptor, but, due to the high power requirement of a chopper I would not recommend it. If you want to save having to swap stub shafts in the tractor it is far better to put a 540 yoke end on the chopper shaft. If you have a tractor with shafts that you have to chage to get 540/1000 pto you will have to use the 21 spline shaft.
