Welding upside down?!?

My JD 48 loader has a crack in it underneath the main frame rail which is made of formed 3/16" steel. It opens up when lifting a load, so this needs to be fixed ASAP. I was wondering if it's possible to weld underneath something?? I would have the loader off, and I would also need to weld a flat 1/4" plate for reinforcement. My guess is that it's going to be deathly hard to do unless I flop the loader over somehow!!
