There are some happy outcomes. Our daughter lives and works in Washington, DC, and parks her car (Saturn) in a parking garage in the basement of her office building. Last month, she came out after work and found someone had knocked the drivers side mirror off. There was a note with a name and phone number under her windshield wiper. She called the guy and he told her to have it fixed and he would pay whatever it cost. Since the car was due to be serviced anyway, our daughter took the car to the Saturn dealer in Gaithersburg, MD, and they replaced the mirror in the process of servicing the car. The fellow who knocked the mirror off paid the portion of the bill that involved the mirror without hesitating.
