Isn't that a kick in the pants? The 4.3l S trucks get lousy mileage and the Ranger is as bad or worse and neither has as much power as my Dakota which is bigger and with a 5.2l v8 it'll do and honest 20mpg if I keep the speed to 65mph. However my old '88 GMC S15 Jimmy 2.8l 5spd would do 25mpg average no matter what I did to it. It didn't have the power of the 4.3l but it took me all over the place. It was a great woods truck too, I'd love to find another that wasn't all rotted out. One new plan I'm kicking around in my head is to get an S truck w/4.3l and sammich in a 6.2l diesel. Should be a relatively easy swap. The lowered truck blown engine crowd has the motor mounts and adapters and stuff for the 350 all figured out plus they've got stiffeners and such to deal with the extra weight. ~150hp out of the 6.2 should be plenty in the S truck body and it should do pretty good on fuel. I could even run it on veggie oil if I were so enclined.

Elliott said while this
