Push the protein to them.... that's best done by having someone balance out a ration for you based on your feed test. Start pushing too hard and you risk more problems than gains.
Really, this is not the time of year to put fast gains on. Too hot and pasture is going downhill fast in terms of quality if you're trying to pasture them.... and I'm guessing you want something like 3 pounds per day going on them? You don't say when the fair is.
