Check the output of your 6 volt generator. If it is like any I have ever tested it will pe putting out around 9 volts if it is good. Back in the late 40's and early 50'd a lot of 8 volt batteries were used because of the easier start in cold weather. No problem back then with burned points because of the 8 volt battery. I only have 7 Oliver 77's and three Oliver 66's now and all but one have 6 volt batteries. That one is a diesel and had been switched to one 12 volt rather than the two 6 volt. The 77 that I pulled, I bought an industrial six 6 volt. It is the size of two standard 6 volt and the one lasted a bunch of years before I replaced it. I buy them a TSC. Rural King has them also.
