How does any one pay $70.00 dollars, let alone $125.00 for round bales of hay? I bought 200 bales at $30 dollars a bale this year (1700lb bales), and I just about passed out writing that check. Any more, and the cows would HAVE to go. Not because I wanted them to, but there would simply be no other alternative. Each cow takes 10 bales of hay,(NE MN) the calves are worth approx. $600 when sold, that's half the profit gone on each calf just feeding the cow. I also got some for $20, but the fellow had no more to sell, and I needed more so I bit the bullet.
