37 chief,Here in Central Texas, We have lots of Pecan trees. It is my favorite BBQ wood, mixed 50/50 with Oak. Useing it for just regular ol fireplace wood is just a waste! But it will work just fine, it has a nice smell, IMO. It is concidered a "Hard wood". You may be connfuseing it with Hackberry, Now this is a WORTHLESS wood, it barely makes bon-fire wood, Not used under any circumstances for cooking. Very watery, when a limb breaks off and falls to the ground it is all ready rotten! But back to you question, it will work just fine, in your fireplace. Hope this helps. Later, John A.
