I repair alot of barn aproches, the ones going to the hay mows. In our area they always put a --probably four to six foot gap between the aproach and the hay mow floor, with wood, most of the time and some times with concrete. Any ideas why?
Some ideas has been to take pressure off the barn foundation--yet many are backfilled all the way to the top of the rock foundation.
Some have sugested so the horses could get better traction.
Another idea was so the barn floor would not get rotten so fast.
