I don't think the NH boom will give you any trouble. I have an LS170 and it's been hammered about as hard as anything can be hammered. In 3000 hours the problems I've had to date include the bottoms of the final drive cases wearing thin at the back and leaking, and generally wearing bolt heads off the bottom since it's in the mud a lot and dragging. I've also had to replace the parking brake/pinion shaft and motor shaft in the reduction case along with doing the drive chains while I was in there. I'm not quite sure why but the bolt that retains the pinion shaft to the motor shaft came loose. If I had caught it first when it was rattling around the chain case it would have been a simple matter of replacing the bolt.... but I thought the noise was a rock between the wheel and the frame... so it ended up wearing the splines out from working loose. Small repair that got to be a large repair... Wheel bearing kits are the other gremlin with this one. Again, it's in mud and doesn't get greased as often as they should since I've got to pull the wheels to grease the wheel bearings. Otherwise, hydraulically and enginewise it's been an excellent machine. THere's a few little design things that NH could have done to address the shortcomings that I've had with it, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another all the same. From what I've seen of the competition that spends it's life standing on it's back door, or face planted with the loader in the air.... I'll stick to the super boom and deal with the litle things.
