The one that burnt us the most was an Oliver 1755 diesel w/ a loader. It seemed to like sitting in the shop a whole bunch.
Wouldn't start in the winter so dad had the top end rebuilt to up the ocmpression. Started great for another 2 years then started getting harder to start again. Lost the clutch while chopping corn, the brakes blew the seals while plowing, a few years later while using it to load the spreader, the transmission locked up and had to be replaced with one form an 1855. I think it got a new shift fork right before that too. The next year the engine gave up.
Now we've got an 1855 that's a great runner, and the 17 is still behind the barn and I'm gonna fix it one of these years. Dad thinks I'm crazy and part of me says the same thing, but if I fix it right I hope the he11 it runs a little bit longer. The thing never did want to restart when hot either.... Had to just walk away and come back after an hour....
