my 300 utility had the same problem the lever goes through the housing and is keyed to the shaft. When I removed the housing and the lever from the tractor, removed the bolt at the end and drove the shaft out of the lever I found the keyway worn in the shaft. I peened it over so the key fit tight and re assembled it. This oriented the shaft and lever to their proper position then I drilled through the lever at the center of the shaft and installed a roll pin. Presto... no more problem
