Due to 18" of snow cover on the ground this winter I'm feeding my horses, but normally I don't feed, if extremely cold we may grain a little for a few days. horses that winter out and paw for food can be caught and ridden hard as they are in good phyisical shape,Those who have feed handed out are soft unless they are regularly used. Many ranch horses here winter out. So far there is no dieoff of the large wild horse herds in the region, they winter very successfully.
