I've towed with a powerful heavy duty 3/4 ton Ford and a weak powered Chevy 1 ton (dual wheel) and felt that the weak 1 ton was much better at handling the trailer than the 3/4 ton. The 3/4 ton flattened the hills easily but just didn't feel as stable in braking and high speed travel as the one ton. I now have a UD 1800 one and a half ton that looks like a one ton. It is an incredible towing machine. I think the goose neck trailer pulls nicer than the bumper pull. It allows the hitch weight to be placed right over the rear axle instead of the bumper. It's a lot more stable. Remember that if you get a trailer rated at a certain gross weight, it does not mean that it is the hauling capacity of the trailer, it is the hauling capacity INCLUDING the weight of the trailer. A 12000 pound trailer will probably haul about 9500 pounds but probably would feel more comfortable with 7500 pounds.
